Breaking: SEIU-UHW’s Dave Regan Reportedly Arrested after Breaking the Arm of Hospital Association's Process Server

SEIU-UHW's Dave Regan
Sources report that SEIU-UHW President Dave Regan was arrested after breaking the arm of a process server who served legal documents, authored by the California Hospital Association (CHA), on Regan at his home in Kensington, California.

According to a reliable source, the Kensington Police Department will soon forward Regan's arrest records to the District Attorney for possible criminal prosecution.

Four sources have corroborated the incident. Here's what they say.

The process server reportedly attempted to serve the legal documents when Regan answered his front door on Beloit Avenue.

Regan, rather than accept the documents, violently pushed the process server down the stairs, breaking his arm. When the police arrived at the scene, say sources, Regan got into an altercation with the police and was arrested.

According to court records, the CHA recently served a variety of legal motions on SEIU-UHW officials in response to Regan’s November 2015 lawsuit against the CHA.

On January 25, for example, a CHA process server delivered legal motions to SEIU-UHW's attorney, Eduardo Roy of Prometheus Partners, at the firm's a law firm in San Francisco. Those documents sought the court's permission for the CHA to formally intervene in Regan's lawsuit.

On January 26, the CHA filed its own lawsuit against SEIU-UHW alleging that Regan violated a gag clause contained in his secret partnership deal with CHA officials.

For those familiar with Dave Regan’s history, the reports of his arm-breaking assault will not be surprising. Regan reportedly has a history of violent encounters, including fistfights at SEIU events, some of which were reportedly fueled by alcohol.

In 2008, Regan led busloads of SEIU staffers and supporters in an attack against a national conference held by "Labor Notes," a network of union activists seeking to democratize and reform US labor unions. Regan's troops violently forced their way into the conference in Dearborn, Michigan, where they reportedly punched, kicked and knocked participants to the floor.

One female conference attendee was sent to the hospital with cuts and other injuries to her head.

Tragically, one of the members of Regan's union at the time, SEIU 1199 West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, died during Regan's assault from a heart attack.

John Sweeney (then President of the AFL-CIO) denounced Regan's attack on the conference, stating: "There is no justification -- none -- for the violent attack orchestrated by SEIU," according to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

When Regan parachuted into California in 2009, sources say he schooled SEIU-UHW's staff in his "old school ways," including the use of threats and intimidation against the union's members and its critics.

During a 2009 election among homecare workers in Fresno County, SEIU staffers reportedly threatened immigrant home care workers with deportation unless they voted for SEIU-UHW, according to TV news coverage and video-taped testimonials of workers and SEIU staff.

During NLRB elections at Kaiser Permanente, SEIU-UHW employed a "World War III" strategy designed to intimidate its members by employing, for example, violent "shout downs" against union members.

In one infamous incident inside a hospital cafeteria, SEIU-UHW staffer Tiffany Ford issued death threats against Kaiser employees… for which a Los Angeles Superior Court judge imposed a restraining order on her.

Another SEIU-UHW staffer, Liz Castillo, became a YouTube sensation (88,000 views) for her violent assault in a hospital cafeteria captured on videotape.

SEIU-UHW -- including staffer Angela Hewett -- even threatened and intimidated 80-year-old labor legend Dolores Huerta, who co-founded of the United Farm Workers Union with Cesar Chavez. In one incident, SEIU-UHW representatives shamefully screamed at Ms. Huerta to "go back to the fields."

All of which raises important questions:

Why did SEIU officials -- including Andy Stern and Mary Kay Henry -- install a man with a history of violence to head a union of healthcare workers in California?

And why have Henry and SEIU's International Executive Board allowed Regan to remain in his seat atop one of SEIU's largest local unions in the nation despite his repeated acts of intimidation and violence -- including his latest assault against a processor, who good just as easily be a union member?

Are SEIU presidents and officers permitted to break the arms of court workers without being held accountable?

Stay tuned.

More Workers Seek to Dump SEIU-UHW

Workers at a Southern California hospital have formally requested an NLRB election so they can dump SEIU-UHW and join NUHW, according to workers and NLRB records.

The request -- reportedly signed by 80% of the workers at 140-bed Garden Grove Hospital & Medical Center -- comes after SEIU-UHW has been completely “MIA” at the hospital, according to workers.

Workers say SEIU-UHW provides zero support to its members… and fails to enforce even basic workplace standards. And under Dave Regan's regime, workers have had a wage freeze for more than 4 years.

Soon after workers submitted their recent request for an NLRB election, Regan instructed the union's attorneys to stall the vote by filing bogus charges with the NLRB.

Regan's stalling strategy comes after two earlier, but unsuccessful, attempts to prevent the workers from even filing their request with the NLRB... which Tasty will describe in another post.

Readers may recall Garden Grove Hospital as the site where SEIU-UHW staffer Liz Castillo became a YouTube star (more than 85,000 views and counting) after she was captured on film in the hospital's cafeteria while insulting workers and then physically attacking one person.

NLRB Finds SEIU’s Dave Regan & Co. Guilty… Again

Last Thursday, the highest decision-making body of the NLRB delivered a guilty verdict against Dave Regan and SEIU for ordering the illegal firing of a rank-and-file SEIU-UHW member from his job at a Southern California hospital.

In a 13-page decision, the NLRB's board members -- who’re appointed by the president of the United States -- ordered SEIU-UHW to “cease and desist from causing or attempting to cause Lakewood Regional Medical Center to discharge or otherwise discriminate against [the worker] or any other employee...”

They also ordered SEIU-UHW to have the worker returned to his job... and to make him “whole for any loss of earnings and other benefits suffered as a result of the discrimination against him, with interest, from the date of his discharge until the date he is reinstated.”

How much does SEIU-UHW owe him? Almost two years’ of wages, benefits and interest.

Last week’s ruling is the latest step in a case that's lasted for 20 months because of SEIU’s senseless legal appeals. In July of 2011, a judge delivered a guilty verdict against Regan, who promptly spent thousands more of SEIU-UHW's dues dollars to appeal the judge's decision to Washington, DC. Attorney Bruce Harland directed SEIU-UHW's attack against the worker.

Why did SEIU try to fire the worker in the first place? SEIU claimed he owed them a whopping $236 in union dues, even though SEIU refused to provide him any accounting of the money. Meanwhile, the worker told the judge how SEIU failed to provide representation or support to union members at his hospital following SEIU's disastrous trusteeship in 2009.

In 2010, SEIU’s Dave Regan, Cory Cordova and YouTube star Liz Castillo teamed up against the worker.

The news about Regan's despicable attack against one of SEIU's own members is not widely known right now. But not for long! In last week's ruling, the NLRB ordered Regan to send a description of the NLRB's verdict to ALL of SEIU-UHW’s members by email and also to post it on SEIU-UHW’s website.

Here's the NLRB's recent decision:

SEIU's YouTube Star Is Back!

Remember this video of SEIU staffer Liz Castillo as she bullies workers and then smashes a camera to the floor inside the cafeteria of a California hospital? The video went viral on YouTube, where it's now been viewed 72,000 times. Castillo can be heard shouting at an SEIU-UHW member dressed in scrubs and then saying, "Shut the f*ck up, you f*cking asshole" as she prepares to backhand a seated observer.

When Castillo's purple-shirted assault became a YouTube phenomenon, SEIU officials canned Castillo in hopes of managing the fallout from SEIU's other attacks... like the death threats against workers at Kaiser Permanente and SEIU's outrageous attacks against Dolores Huerta, the 80-year-old co-founder of the United Farm Workers along with Cesar Chavez.

So what's Castillo up to these days? Has she landed a career on a Detroit roller derby team? Well... kind of. A reader reports that she's back at SEIU-UHW, where her bullyboy exploits caught the eye of Dave Regan, who reportedly instructs SEIU staffers to intimidate workers who criticize SEIU. Here's the reader's report:
Just in case you didn't know, Liz Castillo is back working with UHW- she was seen in the smoking area!!! (which she visits 20X a day) early this week. She was telling the group of smokers that she is back! as an organizer!!! God Help Us!!!
More..... this week the craziest woman in UHW Flannery Hauck (crazier than Liz) was seen lecturing! torturing a group of organizer going over a rap for a campaign she is leading "Lets Get Healthy California" . I felt sorry for those organizers in the second floor.... welcome to the "Flannery concentration camp"
Well, California workers, look for Liz in a hospital near you. Tasty hears she'll soon be playing an integral role in Regan's "Let's Get Healthy, California!" campaign by telling workers to "Shut the f*ck up and fill out the f*cking survey." Way to go, SEIU!

Liz Castillo: Patient

A little birdie told me that Liz Castillo came into St. Francis Hospital yesterday with a broken leg!

Poor lady, that has to hurt. But it begs the question: How did she break that leg? Did she lose a street fight or just trip over her own bad judgment?

Liz: I wanna sign your cast!

Don't Worry about Dolores, the Teamsters were Worse.

Readers-I know lots of you get NUHW's emails, but this video warranted a comment from Tasty, based on recent events. Check out this 4-minute video with an account from Dolores Huerta about what she witnessed at three Kaiser hospitals. 80-year-old Dolores Huerta co-founded the United Farm Workers union with Cesar Chavez and is considered a legend for her work on the front lines of labor and civil rights struggles.

SEIU staffer Angela Hewett makes a cameo appearance in the video chanting and beating her fists on tables in an effort to stop workers from holding a meeting.

SEIU staffers even insulted Dolores Huerta, calling her "a scab" and telling her "to go back to the fields."

Tasty thinks that it seems like SEIU is telling its staff to do whatever it takes to try to win... from death threats to shout-downs to insulting respected (and elderly) labor leaders like Dolores Huerta.

Looks like Liz was just "leading the way!"

Local 99 members: Get Your Protective Gear On!

Word is, Liz "the hammer" Castillo is working at SEIU Local 99!

Still Waiting for the Good Old Fashioned Ass Whoopin' Dave Regan Promised.

Two elections today--both squeakers, but both show that despite SEIU's significant resources, workers aren't exactly buying what they are selling.

First, 4 nursing homes owned by Pratap Poddatoori in Northern California. Tasty was told by an SEIU staff person directly that there was "no way" they were losing these homes.

82 NUHW
85 SEIU
4 No Union

Result: inconclusive, there will be a run off between SEIU and NUHW--clearly any one's game.

Also, the workers at Prison Health Services, a location at which SEIU botched a one day strike earlier this spring by not putting an end date on their strike notice--resulting in a lockout for the workers, workers voted:

NUHW 66
SEIU 59
No Union 1

Result: victory for NUHW!

...wasn't SEIU's whole plan here to run the elections that were "in the bag" for them first? Do these SEIU staff even talk to the members? You have to think that SEIU's "get tough" approach is starting to bite them: because they have ruled with fear and intimidation means that they can't get honest answers from members--and thus are unable to effectively ID voters. Oops...

I smell an Oscar! Jono hits Garden Grove.

Ever see that crappy movie "Bread and Roses?" It was loosely based on SEIU's Justice for Janitors campaign in LA and starred Adrien Brody as a young SEIU organizer who beds a hot young undocumented worker, who then gets deported! Inspiring!

Adrien Brody's character was supposedly based on long time janitor organizer Jono Schaffer. Jono, the Deputy Director of the Property Services Division, was famously quoted in the New York Times, in a leaked email, saying about Tyrone Freeman, "I wish I could say this is unbelievable, but for those of us in Southern California, the only surprise is that it took so long to make it to the public." (Way to keep quiet about corruption while it happens, Jono.)

And now, he has been brought into Garden Grove Hospital to try to smooth over the "Castillo Incident!."

Does SEIU think that bringing in some big wig SEIU dude is going to make workers forget that Liz screamed at workers and then slapped an NUHW volunteer in their workplace? Tasty thinks that workers might be a tad smarter than that.

OC Register update on the Police's case against Castillo here. Notice how SEIU stooge Steve Trossman asserts that Liz was 'baited' into hitting Antonio Orea. No official word on whether she still has her job.

Also, this is unconfirmed, but Tasty hears a new movie is in the works about SEIU organizers. This one will be more action/adventure and instead of sleeping with the workers the organizers will slap 'em! "Bread and Backhands?"

UHW's Monday All Staff Meeting

Will it have a boxing break-out so everyone can learn the Castillo Back Hand?

Friday, February 26, 2010

Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

SEIU Staffer and Zombie Liz Castillo got pissed at NUHW volunteer Antonio Orea and some members who were having lunch in the cafeteria at Garden Grove Hospital...

...so she back-handed him.

Charming, and a great way to win votes Liz!!

The police came to the scene after Liz took off, and are now actively looking for her. Tasty better not hear that dues money pays her bail.

VIDEO. Just so you know, the person taping was an NUHW volunteer, the woman that Liz is yelling at is a member.
