Kaiser’s Phil Marineau is Nuts about Brazilian Butts

Kaiser's Phil Marineau: "I love Brazil Butt"

Remember Phil Marineau?

He's the guy on Kaiser Permanente’s board of directors who recently said "I gotta go to the head” when workers asked him about Kaiser's repeated patient-care violations and its demands for benefit cuts from workers even though Kaiser is making billions in profits.

Why does Marineau spend so much time in “the head?” It turns out he’s developed a keen interest in butts… and, er, Brazilian butts in particular.

Marineau is the former CEO of Pepsi. After making billions of dollars by selling sugar-packed sodas to the public, he's now making a buck from the public’s rapidly expanding waist lines… by hawking weight-loss schemes!

And that's not all. Like many fancy-pants capitalists, Marineau is apparently just a two-bit huckster in a three-piece suit.

The folks over at UNITE HERE, who represent Kaiser’s workers in Hawaii, recently launched a website that outs the nefarious business scam perpetrated by Marineau and his buddies at a New York private equity firm.

The scam works like this.

Marineau’s latest business venture -- Beach Body, LLC -- is a fitness-product company that sells exercise DVDs, nutritional supplements and work-out equipment including P90X, Insanity, and Brazil Butt Lift.

Brazil Butt Lift’s website features tons of photos of women’s butts along with classy appeals to readers like these:

“Booty Makeover Guide”
"Holy Hottie! Get me that booty!”

“Want to get a supermodel sexy booty in just 60 days?"

“My butt lifted an inch and I ended up losing 20 pounds." (WTF??)

The centerpiece of Beach Body’s scam is a “Multi-Level Marketing” scheme. Basically, Beach Body signs up regular people to serve as so-called "Coaches" who sell the company’s products for a commission. These “Coaches,” who are considered “independent contractors,” sign a 14-page contract filled with tons of hidden charges, fees, taxes, etc that drain money out of each unsuspecting Coach’s pocket as quickly as s/he can sell product.

from Brazil Butt Lift's website. Phil is one classy dude.
According to UNITE HERE’s website, more than half of the “Coaches” don’t make a penny from selling the company’s products! But Beach Body makes wads of cash, of course.

It's a perfect business model for Marineau and his money-grubbing pals over at LNK Partners, a New York private equity firm where Marineau is a partner.

That is… until UNITE HERE outed all of the details behind Marineau’s Brazil Butt scam!

From TRO to Permanent Protective Order: Tiffany Ford!

Today LA Superior court Judge Minto issued a permanent restraining order that prohibits SEIU staffer Tiffany Ford from getting within 25 feet of Jan Harris, a social worker at Kaiser. She can still be at Kaiser Baldwin Park, but has to avoid Ms. Harris. Cuz' as you will recall, Tiffany THREATENED TO KILL JAN HARRIS-an SEIU member whose dues pay her salary.

Tiffany isn't fired, yet. Because why would SEIU fire a staffer who a judge agrees threatened to kill a member?

Tiffany Ford is SEIU's Mel Gibson.

Competent Much, UHW?

Got this tip from a reader today:

I was just walking the state capitol grounds at lunch time. There is a UHW march planned today and they were all trying to find any available shade. Serving pizza to the members who showed. Overheard a conversation. One member was walking over to a small group of others and was saying: "The march has been canceled. Our great union did not get the proper permits. We are only allowed right over here". They were just sitting under a tree on the west lawn. Some were on the south lawn. Those members are "cooking". It has to be 90 degrees out there.

From UHW's website: "More than 1,000 seniors, disabled people, and their caregivers from across the state blanketed the State Capitol for a day of action..."

LOL, blanketed! Sounds about right for a bust of a rally that turns into a sweltering picnic where hot pizza is served.

And again, we must ask, who was the genius staffer who was supposed to get the permit?

Barney comes to St Louise. Literally.

Today at St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy the NLRB election began. This afternoon, SEIU busted out their latest (and lamest) tactic to try to win workers' votes: some dude dressed in a purple Barney suit handing out purple weeple things to workers. This is insane, in Tasty's opinion. Do they think SLRH workers are 5 year olds?

What is the SEIU Barney's likely song?

I love the boss. The boss loves me. We're a happy family.
With a weak contract and lots of dues to me from you.
Won't you risk your future in SEIU?

Remember when Andy Stern always used to say "The definition of insantity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?"

Nearly a year ago, SEIU, acting as the Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board of UniteHere, physically took over the HQ of UniteHere Local 24 in Detroit.

To refresh your memory, watch this video of rank and file members of Local 24.

And nearly a year later...

Local 24 won by a 16-4 vote in an NLRB election on a petition filed by SEIU to displace Local 24 in the food and beverage unit at the Northville Downs race track. Local 24 was one of SEIU's first targets, when they stormed Local 24's office last January, threw out the elected officers and shop stewards, and trashed Local 24's leaders.

The members and activists of Local 24 have fought back with overwhelming success, recapturing their office and squashing SEIU's raid attempts. SEIU has sought worker support in every Local 24 shop.

They reached the stage of filing NLRB petitions against Local 24 in three shops. In two of them, an airport concessions unit and the Detroit Athletic Club, SEIU withdrew a couple of days before the election, realizing they would lose. In Northville Downs, SEIU proceeded with the election, and Local 24 won a resounding victory.

Congratulations to all the members, activists, officers and staff of Local 24!

How many elections has SEIU lost to UniteHere so far?
When will they learn the lesson?
When will they stop the insanity?
