SEIU Official Leads the Way across Fashion Frontier

It turns out that David Holway’s ethics aren't the only thing that's questionable about this guy.

Check out his fashion choices!

What's kind of surprising is that Holway didn't dress this way for a stroll through the neighborhood. Or a visit to the racetrack.

Holway -- who’s the president of SEIU-NAGE, a member of SEIU’s International Executive Board, and a close ally of Mary Kay Henry and Andy Stern -- sported this outfit to deliver a speech to a NAGE Leadership Conference that, according to NAGE, was designed to "develop strong union leaders in order to increase NAGE’s influence in the Washington, DC government."

Unsurprisingly, Holway didn't draw a sell-out crowd.

Hmm... how would you describe "the look" that Holway was attempting to achieve?

It appears to be a strange mix of Miami Vice and Jimmy Hendrix, right?

All that's missing is a pair of Versace sunglasses!

SEIU’s Mary Kay Henry Delivers Swearing-In at NAGE’s Convention in the Golden Nugget Hotel

Yesterday, inside the glittery ballroom of the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas, the attendees at SEIU-NAGE’s convention were treated to a spellbinding speech by SEIU President Mary Kay Henry.

Minutes later, NAGE’s President David Holway took the podium and delivered his own riveting remarks to the convention floor.

Holway, a skilled multi-tasker, famously served as the full-time President of NAGE while also working as the full-time Executive Director of the Massachusetts Thoroughbred Breeders Association! Oh, and that was while he simultaneously served on SEIU’s International Executive Board.

What a guy!

Holway has a reputation of practicing union democracy in the style of Gus Bevona, Andy Stern and Tyrone Freeman. According to insiders, Holway treats the union as "a private club."

"It's just a business," Holway is reportedly fond of saying.

Before NAGE's conventions, Holway sends precise instructions to each of NAGE’s local unions instructing their delegates how to vote on each item.

No dissent is tolerated, say Tasty's sources. “The strongest language and intimidation tactics are employed to ensure lockstep compliance.”

If a local union's delegates are bold enough to vote the wrong way, Holway will seize control of the local union or cut off all of its funding and resources.

Purple Palace officials have expertly exploited Holway’s corruption to advance their own personal political agendas, say Tasty's sources.

In one episode, then-SEIU President Andy Stern reportedly threatened Holway with trusteeship due to NAGE’s well-documented history of corruption. However, Stern subsequently dropped his threats in exchange for Holway’s agreement to deliver all of NAGE’s votes for Andy Stern at SEIU’s next international convention.

Says one insider: "David is nothing more than a crook."

And apparently he’s surrounded by SEIU officials who've learned to work together in perfect symbiosis... like the parasites who lives off a steady flow of steaming animal dung.

SEIU's David Holway Prepares for Democracy Fest at the Golden Nugget Hotel

SEIU-style democracy will be on stunning display at the upcoming convention of SEIU’s National Association of Government Employees (SEIU-NAGE).

In September, NAGE -- a union of 31,000 mainly government employees headquartered in Quincy, Massachusetts -- will be holding a three-day convention at the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas where delegates will elect NAGE’s president and Executive Board.

This democracy-fest will be guided by the steady hand of David Holway, who’ll serve as the master of ceremonies. Holway is a notoriously corrupt member of SEIU’s International Executive Board and is also the president of NAGE.

When Holway opens the convention with a ceremonious blow of his gavel, will democracy break out like a horribly infectious case of poison ivy?

Not exactly.

Check out the list of candidates who are standing for the 47 positions that make up NAGE’s top officers and Executive Board. Below, Tasty has posted the list of candidates, which comes directly from NAGE’s website.

As you'll see, virtually every single candidate is part of the "Holway Slate," meaning that David
Holway personally selected them to run.

Holway loves his golden nuggets
Unfortunately for NAGE’s members, this means the next Executive Board won’t be doing any performance reviews of Holway or re-thinking his ridiculously bloated salary. Last year, Holway pocketed $265,909 for being the president of NAGE’s 31,000 members.

That's not all.

Holway is infamous for finding “innovative” ways to supplement his SEIU paycheck.

In addition to holding a full-time job as the president of NAGE and serving on SEIU’s International Executive Board, Holway somehow managed to simultaneously hold down another high-paying job as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Thoroughbred Breeders Association… where he worked tirelessly to encourage more horse racing in Massachusetts!

For this horse-racing gig, Holway pulled down an additional $100,000 per year and also pocketed 7.5% of the revenues from a racetrack called Suffolk Downs, according to the Boston Globe.

It's no wonder that workers have fled SEIU-NAGE so they can join other unions. During the past five years, NAGE has lost roughly one-third of its membership, according to records from the U.S. Department of Labor. Just 20 months ago, 2,300 ambulance workers decertified NAGE and joined AFSCME.

Go figure.

2,600 Ambulance Workers Bolt SEIU

Last week, a total of 2,300 paramedics and emergency medical technicians voted by overwhelming margins to leave SEIU and join AFSCME. The EMS ("emergency medical services") workers’ exodus took place in just two days.

First, in an NLRB election held on September 27, approximately 1,800 workers employed by American Medical Response in more than a dozen counties in California voted by a margin of 77% to 23% to leave SEIU and join AFSCME Local 4911.

Then, on September 28, roughly 500 EMS workers in New England voted by a 90%-to-10% margin to bolt SEIU and join AFSCME.

Last week’s developments followed an election from earlier this year. In February, approximately 300 EMS workers employed by Rural/Metro in Santa Clara County, California also voted to leave SEIU and join AFSCME.

So why are SEIU’s EMS workers running for the exit signs?  Well, it sounds like a story that’s all too familiar to California’s healthcare workers. Here’s what AFSCME’s website says:

Having faced layoffs, attacks on their health benefits, short staffing, and even AMR’s attempt to block their election, workers set out to build their own democratic and accountable AFSCME local union to better engage on professional matters with their employer.

Tasty also hears that SEIU’s EMS workers are tired of all the corruption by SEIU's top leaders. Until last week, the EMS workers were members of SEIU’s “NAGE” chapter, which is headed by a notoriously corrupt member of SEIU’s International Executive Board named David Holway.

In 2011, SEIU paid Holway $264,267 to serve as the president of NAGE’s 43,000 members.

Holway -- who's apparently dissatisfied with his quarter-million-dollar salary -- is infamous for finding “innovative” ways to supplement his SEIU paycheck. So... in addition to holding a full-time job as the president of NAGE and serving on SEIU’s International Executive Board, Holway somehow managed to simultaneously hold down another high-paying job as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Thoroughbred Breeders Association

Readers may be asking, "WTF is the Massachusetts Thoroughbred Breeders Association?" It's devoted to encouraging more horse racing in Massachusetts!

This article in the Boston Globe describes how Holway pulled down more than $100,000 per year from his horse-racing executive directorship, including pocketing 7.5% of the revenues from a racetrack called Suffolk Downs. (Talk about "dues units"!)

SEIU's Tyrone Freeman and David Holway
And check out this photo of Holway and Tyrone Freeman as they made a joint presentation from the podium of the SEIU International Convention. A portrait of purple integrity! (Perhaps they made a presentation about setting up cigar bars at horse tracks.)

Or, as Dave Regan and John August would say, “SEIU has some of the most innovative and transformational leaders in the U.S. labor movement!”

Tasty hears that Holway is also infamous for his affair with Susana Segat, a Purple Palace official who was appointed by Andy Stern to serve as the trustee of SEIU Local 888 in Massachusetts. (Now... Tasty bets that she spent a few sunny afternoons at the track with her favorite purple pony!)

PS. Btw, Tasty enjoyed this message from a rank-and-file NAGE member to “Prez Holway.” It’s posted on this reform website:

Dear Prez Holway:
Considering we are paying you a quarter million $ per year for doing next to nothing.... we'd like you to reassure us that Next Years budget will include full year of funding for our stinking 1% raise ....that is, without any underhanded trickery....like having to wait for some sleight of hand "reserve" to be separately appropriated....(or never appropriated.)

Can't you dopes just come clean and play it straight with the members for once?
